Happy Holidays!

For whatever holidays you may celebrate, I hope they are filled with happiness, hope, and love...

Thank you for taking the time to check in on me and my fledgling blog. I really appreciate you! I may pop in a few times next week, but I hope to be back in full force in 2011 (gasp!)

Easy Toffee Crunch

Here is an easy and delicious recipe that is just right for gift giving. The only problem with the recipe is that it is totally addictive and if any stays in your house, you should be wearing elastic waistband pants, I am just saying... Here is the recipe and some pix sprinkled in-sorry for the lack of consistency!

2 Sticks Butter (no substitutes)
1 cup Brown Sugar
1 1/2-2 cups Choc Chips

Game Plan:
Preheat oven to 350.
Cover cookie sheet with tin foil, lightly grease.
Lay saltines in a single layer on cookie sheet. (One column +/- works for one cookie sheet.)

Cook butter  and brown sugar over med heat until melted/mixed. Bring to a boil. Lower heat and cook (soft boil) for 4 minutes more.
Pour this mixture over the saltines. Spread evenly.
Cook saltines with mixture for 5 minutes.
Remove from oven. Spread chocolate chips evenly.
Wait about 5 minutes. The chips will begin to melt, and you can spread them with a spatula. Now is the time to sprinkle with sprinkles or nuts or some goodies if you want.

Wait for at least an hour. Everything will harden. Notice how almost half of mine is gone before I even get to break it apart into pieces?! I swear, it wasn't only me!

Break apart in random sized pieces. Try not to eat the whole thing.

Wrap up whatever is still left and share with friends!

Give Away Addictions...

So.... My first post back and I am using my blog as a means to enter a giveaway... Sorry! I am kind of addicted to entering giveaways right now. I entered a zillion, and found several new cool blogs through the Sew Mama Sew Give Away Day. I am definitely doing one next time-seriously fun! I didn't have any lady luck with me for those giveaways, BUT I had already won three (yes, three!) recently. I will tell you the scoop on these, but first, let me use the ole' blog to enter another. I have to mention this one at retromummy . Retromummy is one of the really cool blogs that I found during the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day. The fabric looks so fun! So, get on over and enter on your own! If you don't have a blog, you just need to leave a comment to enter! Yeah!

OK, here's the winning scoop. First I won this The Awesome Book of Thanks from Make and Takes! It is really a neat book, and I love the illustrations. Next I would love to get An Awesome Book.

Then, I won these this set of 3 FLY Art Kits! These are really neat art kits made from recycled and repurposed materials-yeah! The Fly Children's Art Center seems like such a great idea! I will give you the scoop on each art kit in the next couple of weeks, when we get time to play with these more.

Then, I won a Sea Bag! I have to say, this too is going to deserve its own post, because this bag is so awesome! I love bags, and I have been hearing about these forever. So, to win-woo hoo! Like I said, more on this soon. I have to take some pictures of my new bag and show it off!

WOW! So, you can see why I have been kind of addicted lately! When you are hot, you're hot! (Ha!)

Now, to start the week off right, I will leave you with a picture of our lovely tree this year, which we are affectionately calling our Dr. Seuss Tree. To be clear, yes, we actually paid money for this! It has about three trunks! And, it has only fallen down three times so far!

Happy Holidays, and I hope your tree only falls a few times at most...

Down and Out

Hi. Just a quick note to let you know my big blog posting plans for this week have been downsized. I have a killer case of Strep throat and at least one of the kids isn't feeling too hot right now either-things aren't looking good for much posting. BUT, on a lighter note, serious giveaways going on right now. Check out sew mama sew for 3 giant lists of giveaways and great blogs. There is one good point about no one feeling too hot right now. It may be a good time to catch up on blog reading guilt free!

Winter Greenery Candle holder

Next up in the quick and easy gifts showcase. A winter greenery candle holder.

What you need;
wide mouth jar (canning jar works great) with lid
winter greens
floating candle which will fit into the jar

What next;
Put a few small greens in the jar, along with cranberries. Put the lid on the jar. Nicely wrap the jar and a floating candle. Include a tag saying something like this, "Fill jar with water. Float and light the candle. Enjoy the beauty of the season."
Pat yourself on the back for a job well done!

This also works great in a larger bowl with multiple candles.

I also wanted to shout from the rooftoops, uh, I mean, casually mention, that I made my first Etsy sale yesterday! So darn exciting!

We interrupt the regularly scheduled programming...

So, can I tell you that I was featured in an Etsy treasury! I really am just so darn excited because now I know that someone besides my friends and family actually has looked at my shop! Yeah! Seriously, it is the little things in life, right? Well, anyway, the treasury is called Enough Christmas Cheer to Go A-Round, curated by saltcityspice. So, thanks a million billion saltcityspice for making my day!
Here is my little number that she picked for it's holiday cheer.

Here's to Christmas Cheer!

Paper whites!

Have you noticed that when I say 'quick and easy' gifts, I really mean it?!
Next up, 'planted' paperwhite bulbs. I love the smell of these!

What you need;
paper white bulbs (The best place to buy these is a nursery or garden center. They generally sell quality bulbs inexpensively by the bulb.) I got mine at Allen Sterling Lothrop locally.
Shallow containers
Pebbles or marbles

Fill bottom of containers with pebbles. Place a paper white on the pebbles.

Wrap it up and include a little note like this.You probably could make the note cuter, and don't sign it love V.

These literally grow right before your eyes. Depending on how much they have started growing when you purchase them, they will take about 3-4 weeks to bloom. Now is a great time to get these up and running, or give them as Wintery gifts!

Easy Button Rings

Since I have been such a slacker lately, I am going to try to do quick and easy gifts all this week. Lofty goal for me, I know!
To start the week off right, easy button rings. Do a quick google of button rings, and you will be browsing for quite some time!
What you need;
adjustable ring blanks (I got these on Etsy from Supply Pusher-they are really comfortable!)
heavy duty (toxic-bleh!) glue, like E-600 (and a well ventilated space, without children nearby-this stuff is not good for you!)

How to;
Apply glue to the flat part of your ring blank. Adhere button(s). Repeat, repeat, repeat. Wait to dry. Wear and admire regularly.

These rings are such an easy and satisfying project. If you browse Etsy, you will find so many of these cuties. Most of these pictured here are gifts for special ladies, but I have even started to list a few in my fledgling shop.

Have a happy day!

Serious Giveaways around this week!

Clearly, I have been slacking in the Rescued Goods blog business this week. I have even been slacking in my blog reading (gasp!) but luckily I have managed to read a few, and there are some serious giveaways going on this time of year. A great week of giveaways is ending this evening at The Crafty Crow. Head over before midnight Saturday to enter a week's worth of awesome giveaways!
Here is the link for the Winter Holiday Giveaway Week at The Crafty Crow.

There is also a great ribbon giveaway at Craftaholics Anonymous right now. Check out their Ribbons and Bows giveaway link.

Good luck to you, but save some winning for me!

In other news, I got the sweetest, cutest, most bestest vintage baby bibs at a church craft fair this morning. When I get good pictures, hopefully Sunday am, I will be listing them in the Rescued Goods Etsy Shop. It's official-I am starting to list items! A bit late for the holidays, but it is one of those things I have been procrastinating on for way too long. It was time to Just Do It!, as Nike says (or said in the 90's).

Off to do holiday crafting, baking, eating, and decorating!
